LOVE POWERED PRAYER - ROL Newspaper

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx By Francis Frangipane
Love is the fire behind all intercession. To perfect love, God unites us to other people; to empower prayer, He allows us to be vicariously identified with the sufferings of those we care for. As it is written, "If one member suffers, all the members suffer with it" (1 Cor. 12:26).

If we cease to love, we will fail to pray.

Are you weary or vacillating in your prayer life? Return to the love God first gave you, whether that love was for your family or church, city or nation. Love will identify you with those you pray for; it will revive your intercession, and prayer empowered by love will "never fail.

Consider the prophet Daniel. Daniel loved the people of Israel. He loved the temple and the Holy Land. Although Daniel was not guilty of the sins of Israel, his prayer was an expression of his identification with the nation. Daniel put on sackcloth and ashes and sought the Lord with prayer and supplication. He prayed, Alas, O Lord, the great and awesome God, Who keeps His covenant and lovingkindness for those who love Him and keep His commandments, we have sinned, committed iniquity, acted wickedly, and rebelled, even turning aside from Thy commandments and ordinances (Daniel 9:4-5).

Had Daniel sinned? No. But his love and identification with Israel made his repentance legitimate. Additionally, Daniel was faithful in his daily prayer for Israel he prayed all his life for the restoration of the nation. Consider: After a year or two our faithfulness begins to wane. But Daniel was faithful every day throughout his life!

When Darius passed a law forbidding petitions to any god or man other than himself, Daniel was not intimidated. We read, Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went home. And in his upper room, with his windows open toward Jerusalem, he knelt down on his knees three times that day, and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as was his custom since early days (Daniel 6:10 NKJ).

Daniel was one of the first exiles from Israel to Babylon. We can imagine, in the terror and trauma of seeing one's society destroyed and its survivors enslaved and exiled, that Daniel's parents had firmly planted in his young heart Solomon's prayer, which embodied God's requirements for restoration: When Thy people Israel are defeated before an enemy, because they have sinned against Thee, if they turn to Thee again and confess Thy name and pray and make supplication to Thee in this house, then hear Thou in heaven, and forgive the sin of Thy people Israel, and bring them back to the land which Thou didst give to their fathers (1 Kings 8:33-34).

Thus, Daniel prayed three times a day, every day, since his earliest years. He continued in prayer for nearly seventy years, until the time Jeremiah's prophecy came to pass!

You see, the work of God takes time. How long should we pray? We pray as long as it takes. Consider Anna, who ministered to the Lord in prayer and fasting in the temple for approximately sixty years, crying out to God until He sent the Messiah. Or Cornelius, whose "prayers and alms . . . ascended as a memorial before God" (Acts 10:4). We do not understand how faithfulness in prayer releases the destiny of nations. What sustained these champions of prayer? They loved God and loved the people of God.

Lord God, restore us to Your love. Your Word says that love never fails. Master, we know that we have failed often; we faint because we lose sight of love. Master, by Your grace, we purpose to identify those people that we love and then to be faithful in prayer until You touch them. We also purpose to follow Your leading until all the Christians in the city are united and crying to You in prayer. Help us, Father, to discern the power of love empowered prayer. In Jesus' name. Amen.

This is a "women only" group that meets the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month from 10am-12pm in the Family Room. "Selah" helps us remember who we are; it's a place to be still, to know God. It's a place where we can deal with choices and changes. In these "pauses" we're reminded that we have a certain number of days, and we can ask ourselves, "Do I want to spend the rest of my life doing what I'm doing?" In these places, we see things we need to add to or to let go of. Please come and join us. Nursery is provided. For more information contact: Erin Foster.

No Title - Purpose & Vision

OUR PURPOSE: CHRISTLIKENESS

OUR VISION:
To bring as many people to heaven as we can, in as Christlike condition as possible.

OUR FOUNDATIONAL VALUES:
We believe that what we become in our relationship with God is more important than what we do for God. Jesus, as a carpenter fulfilling common tasks, awakened the Father's pleasure (Matthew 3:17). If we gain the Father's endorsement, we believe He will back our efforts with heaven's power. Thus when we speak of becoming like Christ, we have the following definitions in mind:CHRISTLIKENESS Our first common foundational value, as stated above, is pursuit of Christlikeness. Since nothing pleases the Father more than His Son, it is our desire to be genuinely conformed to the character, power and love of Jesus Christ. We believe this is God's vision for man, to make us in the image of Christ (Gen 1:26; Romans 8:29). Thus, we measure our success not by what we are before man, but how truly Christlike we become before God.HUMILITY
We are convinced that all spiritual progress is the result of God's grace. However, while God's Spirit may be poured out on all flesh, He only gives grace (or the capacity to be changed) to the humble. Therefore, we esteem humility as the first and most important virtue. For it is humility that enables us to hear God concerning our sin and it is humility that honestly accepts where we still lack Christ's virtues. In seeking to truly become like Christ, we remember His commands, "Learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart" (Matthew 11:29).PRAYER (Redemptive Intercession)
We believe we have been placed on earth to reveal God's mercy. Thus, when we are made aware of someone caught in sin, or when we see evil prosper in our world, we believe our first response is redemptive prayer (1 John 5). We are a people committed to not use our tongues to gossip, slander or destroy, but to intercede, correct, heal and redeem. When rebuke or discipline is required, we purpose to do so in meekness, looking to ourselves lest we too be tempted (Galatians 6).CHRIST-CENTERED UNITY
We believe a time will come when, because of mature Christ-centered unity, Jesus' prayer in John 17 will be fulfilled. Therefore, we believe it is the Father's intention, not only to fulfill Christ's prayer as He prayed in the first century, but to bring unity to the church throughout the ages so that "all who believe...may be one" (John 17:20-21). As those who are experiencing the effect of the Father's answer to Christ's prayer, we are committed to unity with other Christians. Our unity may manifest in many ways: friendships, individual or corporate prayer, kindness, forgiveness, financial assistance, compassion, citywide outreaches or dozens of other expressions. Where we differ doctrinally with other born again Christians, we purpose to maintain the "unity of the Spirit" until we all come to the "unity of the faith" (Ephesians 4:3, 13).

REACHING THE LOST: A Direct Result of Walking in Our Four Standards
Within the scope of our vision - whether it is in our personal pursuit of Christlikeness or engendering unity in the church, whether we are praying for our nation or painting a neighbor's house - our spirit is always mindful of reaching the lost. We seek a pure heart so that "sinners will be converted" to God (Psalm 51); we desire unity, that "the world may believe" (John 17); and, we humble ourselves and pray that God might turn and "heal [our] land" (2 Chronicles 7:14). Just as the unsaved are always on the mind of God, so we are ever mindful of Christ's heart to seek and to save the lost.

Volunteers working in the River of Life Media Ministry are trained in the proper operation of our digital video cameras and video projection. Our crew is responsible for videotaping our Sunday morning services and providing media support through our video projection system.

Crew members also assist with DVD publishing and duplication, making DVD's and CD's of our weekly services available in the River of Life Bookstore.

Internships are available for those interested in furthering their media production skills.

Please email us at info@riveroflife.org or call 319-393-3709 if you have further questions.
